really BIG PICTURE

WHAT would your 20 words BE ?

Consider US

great cause…i think i saw that video or one like it a while ago…is that possible?  or is this a new one?  someone made the comment however that they flew her on a jet and burned up alot of the atmosphere doing it…cancels out her purpose for being there…it was brainstormed i think that they could have sent the video to the conference from where she lived and made a much bigger impact…of course, I could be totally off base and be talking about an entirely different video all together…

either way, it is still a very good message…love in joy*

The video was of Severin's speech to the UN in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 ! …

IT just sounds even more approporiate 17 years later because homo sapiens is fast approaching the reality of both peak oil and climate change and the collective conscious of our species is awakening to the potential crisis.

… and had it NOT been for her “personal attendance then” I very much doubt that ANY of the action thus far embarked upon by the IPCC would have happened.

ALL the efforts @ www.considerUS.org are intended to repeat the influence of youth on the delegates who will be attending the climate summit in Copenhagen in December and I would go as far as saying that IF Obama doesn't attend that meeting to sign up to an agreement with China & India, then Colin Mason's 2030 SPIKE will quickly become a 2023 SPIKE and WE SHALL only then have 13 years left before the point of no return.

Thanks for all you have done for the world, dear one. I am glad God let us borrow you from heaven…for just a brief moment in time.

Any US Senator can similarly frustrate legislation by filibustering
(the term, engagingly, comes from the Spanish word for ”
pirate”).

Indeed, these days he or she does not even have to talk for ever, but can achieve the same effect by simply announcing the intention to do so.

The threat that hard-line climate-sceptic Republicans will do this is holding up the passage of a bill introducing measures to reduce carbon emissions. And that, in turn, is stalling international agreement on a treaty to combat global warming, scheduled for Copenhagen next month, because the bargain cannot be struck without the United States.”

OBAMA versus THE climate pirates

and …

EVEN IF global warming IS the problem, CARBON TRADING isn't the answer.

The following excerpt from a conversation between Sanjida O'Connell of the New Scientist & Ray Mears entitled We'll struggle to survive climate change
provides yet another non-scientific perspective to add to the debate

Do you worry about Earth's future?

The planet will be fine, whether we are is another matter. What's interesting is that the last time we faced climatic fluctuations as a species, we were hunter-gatherers and could up sticks and move. We can't do that now, and we're only just realising that the result of a static lifestyle is that you have to take greater care of the planet. I'm not a natural worrier, it's more important to act in a positive way. Obviously we should be concerned - I've seen signs of global warming myself - but what concerns me more is global pollution. That's a tremendous worry. How can we survive without clean air and water? We're seeing an increased amount of illness and we haven't got to the bottom of the causes. I suspect the answers will be commonplace and linked to environmental conditions, so I think we should concentrate our efforts as much on pollution as global warming.

How will humans cope with climate change?

I don't think most people will survive climate change. It will be a disaster. We have to adapt to survive and take lessons from nature.

Adaptable things do better - the more specialised you become, the more marginal you are.

My biggest concern is that people are turning their backs on Darwinian evolution. I don't think there should be a conflict between Darwinian science and Christianity. If you believe in Darwin and evolution you don't need to be faithless. Plenty of scientists would agree.

Yvo de Boer, executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the official charged with bringing the Copenhagen talks to a successful conclusion, recently expressed his frustration at the conclusion of a negotiating session in Bangkok in October …

“In December, citizens everywhere in the world will have a right to know exactly what their governments will do to prevent dangerous climate change.
It is time now to step back from self-interest and let the common interest prevail
.”

In the context of the dilemma presented by these two juxtaposed reports  …

Geoffrey Lean has said  ”The chances of failure are great. Time is desperately short. If the US bill cannot be passed by June, it may well never be, as mid-term elections then approach. If a deal is delayed much beyond Copenhagen – as Achim Steiner, the head of the UN Environment Programme said yesterday – the risk of deadlock will be “extremely high”.

WE CAN ONLY hope and pray that there IS LIFE yet in next month's climate talks in Copenhagen, particularly in view of the fact that the quantum mechanical machines of the evolutionary process of LIFE were alive and well and doing their stuff, as nature intended, millions of years before our species set foot on this planet and much well before the multitude of religious and/or scientific and/or philosophical interpretations of the existence of LIFE were EVER MOOTED.
